Mold Illness is perhaps better labeled as Chronic Inflammatory Disease. The problem that at least one quarter of the population has (those that have the mold gene haplotypes) is that their immune systems cannot get rid of the biotoxins that the mold secretes. This sets up a chronic inflammatory response that causes most of the symptoms associated with mold. The following diagram elucidates these pathways. It is important to note that is the little known hormone MSH that causes much of the suffering by lowering overall resistance and reducing endorphin and melatonin secretion, as well as causing chronic GI symptoms. This leads to severe insomnia, debilitating diarrhea, chronic pain and overall reduced ability to deal with life’s stresses.
